ALOOF

In contemporary societies, there doesn’t seem to be room for silence. We live in a noisy environment, in an era that overwhelms us with an enormous amount of information, where silence is uncomfortable. We live in a time without pauses.

Aloof is a reflection on the noise we’re exposed to and the physical and mental effects it has on us.

There’s a part of each and every one of us that only shows up when no one is around, in the silence of solitude. Without distractions, we find moments of reflection and tranquility. “We need silence, not to escape, but to know the fundamentals, the roots, the tendencies of our true nature,” said Henriette Lannes.

Aloof is a photo series that includes portraits and landscapes which contrast and complement each other. We witness the intimate solitude of these characters who invite us to breathe and think about the open space with the same feeling and intention.

The landscape connects them with their true nature.

We observe silence in each pair of images.

What do we feel when we observe someone else’s solitude? What is that yearning that the series portrays?

Within the contemplation of the landscape, by connecting with the nature of each individual portrayed, is where the silence of Aloof serves as a meeting point with ourselves.
